"Canada's master bansuri flautist",
Catherine Potter is a long-time
disciple of Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, one of
India's most respected musicians. She also trained
in Western classical music, jazz, West-African and
Balinese music. With a solid reputation as an inspired
performer of North Indian classical music, she has
performed extensively in Canada, USA and India,
has been featured on Radio-Canada and CBC radio
and television and has shared the stage with Hariprasad
Chaurasia, Zakir Hussain. Catherine Potter's first
CD, Bansuri, was recorded in Bombay with the excellent
tabla-player, Kalinath Mishra and was released in
Canada in 1997.
With
a MA in Ethnomusicology from the Université
de Montréal and a BFA in Jazz Studies from
Concordia University, Catherine Potter contributes
to a wide array of collaborations both in concert
and on recordings. These include Simon Shaheen,
Tasa, Ramasutra, John Gzwoski,
Patrick Graham, Ravi Naimpally, Kiran Ahluwalia,
Montreal Guitar Trio, Ganesh Anandan, Vineet Vyas,
Nathalie Cora, Vinay Bhide, Philip Hornsey, Ziya
Tabassian, Jorge Martinez, Lori Cullen, Adham Sheikh,
Boubacar Diabate, Lilison di Kinara et Menaka Thakkar
Dance Company, to name a few.
