news: CATHERINE POTTER - DUNIYA PROJECT has just completed a successful international tour including 4 concerts in Europe and 9 performances in India where the Duniya Project CD was released by Music Today under the title, Following in the Footsteps of Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia.

CATHERINE POTTER - DUNIYA PROJECT, unique world music ensemble, melds ancient and current traditions; faithfully rending the intracate beauty of Indian ragas while creating jazzy atmospheres and enticing rhythms with forays into flamenco, funk and gamelan. A musical odyssey between Montreal and Mumbai, where Catherine continures to perfect her skills with the world’s top bansuri master, Hariprasad Chaurasia, Duniya, which means ‘world’ in several Asian and African languages, speaks to both the international flavour of the music and to the diverse backgrounds of the outstanding musicians who make up DUNIYA PROJECT’s unique global sound.

The group presently features Catherine Potter on bansuri, Ravi Naimpally on tabla, Nicolas Caloia on double–bass, Thom Gossage on drums along with different guest guitarists including Jorge Martinez, Jean-Marc Hébert, John Gzowski and Joy Anadasivam.   All contribute to the ensemble’s unique melding of ancient  and current traditions and the project often includes additional guests from a wide array of musical traditions; such as Palestinian oud player Simon Shaheen, Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia and tabla player, Subhankar Bannerjee.
